Boot Camp – Medical Bay – Day 20

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Since I last journaled, we’ve received a letter from our guy almost everyday.  20 days he’s been sitting in Medical Hold making no progress toward boot camp training, and no progress toward surgery.  He has been very discouraged, but GOD has a purpose in this, and I believe I now understand more  clearly what that is.  I believe (by his letters), that  God presently has him in spiritual boot camp and he’ll get out and enter boot camp in God’s perfect timing.

In the meantime, in addition to eating, sleeping, studying his boot camp ‘knowledge’ materials, getting screamed at, and reading his Bible, he can now have books and DVD’s sent to him along with photos and our continual stream of letters to encourage him during the wait.

I’ve sent him a small, flat photo album and lots of photos, several DVD, and a book by Max Lucado that he sucked up the very first day he received it.

He telephoned last night and got to talk with his little sister and dad  for a while.  I didn’t get to talk with him, which is okay, because I’m the one who got to talk to him each time previously that he’s called.  Last night was the first call his daddy and sister has had.  It did their hearts good.

And we’ve learned that he will now have phone privileges once a week.  Thus, the call last night.  PRAISE GOD FOR PHONE CALLS.  When someone you love is separated from you by circumstances beyond your control, that prevents contact or easier access to contact, it really impacts how you value those you love.

If you are reading this blog, thank you for stopping and saying a prayer over our son and all our military men and women serving on OUR behalf as citizens of this great country, our country as a whole, and our world.  We know the times are growing harder and harder, and the Word says that “the prayers of the righteous avail MUCH!”

Hang in there, my guy.  You WILL get your opportunity to work toward becoming a Marine.  I love you.  Mom

  1. I’m watching Heartbreak Ridge. How did active Marines get out of boot camp with that attitude?

    1. Hmmm… I’ve never seen that. I’ll have to watch it.
